Hope for the Future is an NPO founded in 2002 by Vanessa Sauls Nelson, a mother desperate to understand her child’s learning disability. She educated herself to assist her child effectively and was open to not just learning how to assist him, but also supporting parents who were going through the same challenges.

In 2002 she became a vocal supporter of women experiencing gender-based violence. She assisted by talking to and encouraging these women, helping them gain protection orders and divorce applications.

Today Hope for the Future runs 20 programmes to support their community.

The Laeeq Toffar Foundation is a registered NPO committed to providing destitute children with fundamental things they need to thrive at home, school and at play.

Their primary focus is on developing children through their after-school program and recreational activities. They run three developmental programs: development through education, nutritional development, and development through recreational activities.

Skhumbuzo Foundation is a South African, Cape Town-based non-profit company that assists children with learning difficulties, with the main focus on children who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Skhumbuzo Foundation empowers families and schools to embrace children with ADHD and other learning difficulties and gives them the tools to assist learners at home and in the classroom. “We help children remain focused in the classroom and during their exams by offering them the assistance that they need to thrive,” says Skhumbuzo Foundation founder Oscar Gordon-Smit.

Since 2001 Sign Language Education and Development (SLED) has become known throughout South Africa and its neighbouring countries, as a Deaf non-profit organisation that is committed to providing the Deaf child of South Africa with an equal and democratic right to literacy, learning and access to information through the promotion of South African Sign Language (SASL).

SLED’s vision is to see all of South Africa’s Deaf children achieving their full potential.

SLED’s main objective is to facilitate the Deaf child’s equal & democratic right to literacy & learning through the promotion of South African Sign Language.

This clinic operates in the South Peninsula Health District of the Metro Region.

Sisters Incorporated plays a critical role in protecting, supporting and empowering women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence, abuse and stigmatisation that is so prevalent and widespread in our communities.

With a history spanning over 60 years in Cape Town, Sisters Incorporated has evolved from being a refuge for single mothers into a safe haven caring for women and their children.

They provide care – free of judgement, criticism and bias – and aspire to empower those who pass through their doors, to become better equipped for their role in society.

ChildSafe, an injury prevention unit based at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital is a non-profit organisation that aims to reduce and prevent injuries of children through research, education and recommendations to legislation.

They work with other non-profits, government, corporates, and communities to achieve this. Their core focus though is the prevention of unintentional injuries that are usually regarded as accidents, such as, burns, falls, drowning, road traffic crashes, choking and poisoning.
