Voices from Below
Voices from Below has grown out of a need to capture and amplify the voices of ordinary South Africans speaking about their experiences of participatory local governance during their country's first ten years of democracy. In line with the Foundation for Contemporary Research's action research orientation, the book gives an honest account of people's experiences, perceptions and interpretations of public participation in local government in the Western Cape Province. This book integrates the way theory (legal frameworks) and practice (case studies) of public participation in a way that highlights gaps in both the theory and the practice of public participation at the local government level.
