South African Human Rights Commission: Report of Seminar on Freedom of Expression
The South African Human Rights Commission took the initiative of hosting the seminar in which participants would examine and critique the right to freedom of expression in the context of religious diversity in South Africa. The objective of this report was examine the right to freedom of expression in South Africa in light of such controversies as the Prophet Mohammed cartoons and the so called "Anti-Hindu video", to examine the ambit of the right to religion, belief and opinion; to find ways of striking a balance between these two rights regimes. Furthermore, to examine tolerance for opposing though controversial views in South Africa's young democracy.
