How to set up a Past Pupils Association
|
A step by step guide to setting up a past pupils association. Though the notion of a Past Pupils or Alumni Association is firmly rooted in the tradition of many schools, others grapple with the practicalities of cultivating and sustaining good relationships with their existing and past pupils in an organised manner. Many ask ‘Why have a Past Pupils Association? What can schools do for their past pupils? What can pupils do for their schools? Why is it important to have an organised structure to maintain contact with past pupils?’. This booklet sets out to examine ways in which schools can cultivate good relationships with their alumni or pupils and make them active allies in promoting the school and its achievements.

Work in Progress
This text is not about making room for posturing and jostling for a position – it is about finding ways to position your institution for investment – in a country and world, among rival audiences and fund-seekers, amidst ever encroaching competition, and with a local and global situation that makes certain wants and needs, rights, demands and duties ever more difficult to fulfill. It is the time and place to be creative and to see further and think deeper than what is scattered on the surface of common sense, shared beliefs, and our unquestioned assumptions about who we are and where we want to get to.

3rd Stream Income Conference Report - March 2009
A report on the recent conference hosted in Pretoria on the 18, 19 March. The central business of the conference was all about 'third stream income': defining the concept and discussing how to access, secure and generate income from sources other than government subsidies and tuition or student fees. Speakers from the United States of America, key local figures, and close to a hundred delegates participated in what was clearly a much needed initiative. In addition to South African participants, the Partnership for Higher Education in Africa supported the attendance of five delegates: two from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and one each from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Kenyatta University, Kenya, and the Council for Tertiary Education, Ghana.
