About the programme


In the present economic climate NPOs are under pressure to secure their future survival. To meet these pressures it is vital for organisations to grow their capacity to attract the resources they need to meet their goals. Inyathelo’s Advancement Capacity Development Programme was established to assist individuals and organisations in the non-profit sector to develop the skills required to achieve long term financial sustainability in order to advance their objectives.

What we do

The Programme aims to:

  • Build the capacity of non-profit organisations to attract resources and maintain social investment.
  • Enhance organisations’ advancement operations through knowledge sharing and capacity development.
  • Expand advancement knowledge and practice throughout South Africa through strategic partnerships
  • Produce knowledge and develop materials relating to advancement.

More about our workshops

Advancement and Fundraising Basics:

This workshop offers participants an opportunity to examine the donor world and the strategic management of donor relations. This includes an exploration of why donors contribute to society; how to research prospective donors; the fundamentals of proposal writing and how to meet with donors to request support.

 



Advanced Advancement Training for NPOs:

This workshop covers more advanced topics for senior staff in the non-profit sector to enhance their skills to successfully attract and manage resources to achieve organisational objectives. The workshop covers the following topics: ethics; good governance; prospect research; evaluation and monitoring; image building and communication.

High Impact Social Advocacy:

This workshop provides participants with the insight and techniques necessary to design and run an effective social advocacy campaign. The workshop methodology includes action and cooperative peer-to-peer learning aimed at encouraging participation and ownership of knowledge. The workshop includes skills development in brand design; social marketing; and cognitive process fields.

“Analysis in the wild” - Critical Thinking:

This workshop focuses on providing participants with innovative and practical techniques to improve their critical thinking and analytical skills. It pays particular attention to direct sense-making of real world environments rather than theories of analysis. Learning methodology is based on action-learning, peer-to-peer learning, case studies and competency-based approaches.

NPO Governance:

This workshop encourages board members and senior staff in the non-profit sector to value the governance process as a strategic and key theme in the organisation’s advancement. Topics covered include sessions on board recruitment, development of board members, roles and responsibilities (including supporting the fundraising endeavours of your organisation), ethics and good governance practices.

Media and Communication:

This workshop focuses on communications and media strategies for the non-profit sector. It includes an introduction on how the media operates; how you can use the media to promote your cause; how to get your organisation looking and sounding professional in the media; how to write successful media releases; and how to deal with crisis communications.
