Nomination Criteria

1. The Inyathelo Philanthropy Awards recognise extraordinary individuals who have made innovative personal financial contributions to social development and who have demonstrated initiative and leadership in building philanthropy in South Africa.

2. “Individual philanthropy” is understood to mean “strategic personal financial giving for sustainable social development”.

3. Individuals may be nominated who have, through their personal giving:
a. benefited an institution or organization in recognizable, identifiable, quantifiable and sustainable ways, and
b. shown innovation and leadership in philanthropy.


4. This impact, innovation and leadership can be demonstrated in the submission by providing information on:
a. projects supported by the philanthropist and what these projects have achieved;
b. the philanthropist’s innovative ideas and initiatives that have resulted in quantifiable and sustainable social benefits; and
c. awards recognising projects that have been supported by the philanthropist.

 

5. Individuals (and couples or families) are eligible for nomination. Organisations and institutions are not eligible for these awards.

6. Nominations will be accepted from individuals and from organisations.


7. All submissions are reviewed according to set criteria by an Awards Review Panel, whose task it is to select from the submissions those nominees who best exemplify leadership and excellence in individual philanthropy in South Africa.

8. Nomination for an award does not automatically mean that the nominee will receive an award.

9. Individuals must be South African or resident in South Africa.

10. Under no circumstances can Inyathelo consider nominations related to donations that may have been compromised by any kind of criminal activity.

11. To be considered for an Award, the nominee must be available on 15 November 2010 to participate in the Inyathelo Philanthropy Awards event to be held in Cape Town.
