Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and Mrs Nomalizo Leah Tutu

“One thinks about the Dead Sea; it’s the Dead Sea because it receives and does not give out. The more you give away the more you are able to get.”

This award is dedicated to a pair of much loved and respected South African philanthropists, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and Mrs Nomalizo Leah Tutu. The name INDIMA-TEMA is a combination of words from isiXhosa and Sesotho that mean, loosely, "making a mark, or leaving a trail". This couple has certainly made an indelible mark and have left a strong and particular trail - not only of philanthropic activities but in so many spheres that continue to touch all of our lives.

We wish Inyathelo Awardee, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, a happy 80th birthday on the 7th October 2011. Read more…
