Shelagh Gastrow - Executive Director

Shelagh was Director of Fundraising at the University of Cape Town before she helped establish Inyathelo in 2002. She has worked in the non-profit sector for many years, including with the Institute for a Democratic Alternative for South Africa (IDASA) where she headed its Africa programme. She is also the author of five editions of the “Who’s Who in South African Politics”

Gabrielle Ritchie - Programme Director

Before joining Inyathelo, Gabrielle set up and managed the Proposal Development Unit at the University of Cape Town. Through this, she gained an indepth understanding of the Advancement environment in South Africa as well as the dynamics and challenges of institutional Advancement. Since joining Inyathelo, Gabrielle has focused primarily on initiatives to grow philanthropy in South Africa.
 
Areas of Expertise: Philanthropy, Social Justice Philanthropy, Advancement, the Lotteries, non-profit governance, donor and funding issues as well as non-profit sector resourcing.

 

Nazli Abrahams - Manager, Advancement Training and Support Unit

Nazli initially joined Inyathelo to manage the Kresge Special Initiative which involved a unique five-year partnership to develop and strengthen Advancement practice, local fundraising approaches and South African giving. Prior to that, her focus was on curriculum design and development, and broadcast communications and training.

Amanda Bloch - Inyathelo Associate

Amanda is a dedicated philanthropist with a particular interest in child health issues. She is patron and board member of several nonprofit organisations, including the Children’s Hospital Trust. Amanda advises various nonprofit organisations and corporates on governance, structures, planning and fundraising, as well as social investment. Amanda is also a co-author of Inyathelo’s ASK Toolkit, an Advancement and fundraising toolkit commissioned by the Western Cape Department of Social Development.
