Kresge grantees to attend course in the U.S.
19 Jul 2010

Eight advancement practitioners drawn from the Kresge Foundation Special Initiative programme being implemented by Inyathelo will head off to the Centre on Philanthropy at Indiana University in the United States in August  to complete an accredited training course.

Two representatives each were chosen from the four academic institutions participating in the Kresge Programme. They will complete an intensive five-day course on the “Principles and Techniques of Fundraising”, tailored especially for the participating grantee institutions.
The four academic institutions participating in the programme are: the University of the Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, University of the Western Cape and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

The Kresge Special Initiative, a partnership between the Kresge Foundation in Michigan and Inyathelo, was launched in April 2005 with a $10-million grant from the Kresge Foundation to strengthen local private giving and the fundraising capacity of non-profit institutions in South Africa.

Besides funding to cover operational costs related to institutional advancement and fundraising such as staff salaries, equipment, travel and campaign overheads, the five-year programme will provide institutions with fundraising training and support, mentoring, peer exchanges abroad and special challenge grants.
