Nomfundo Walaza bids Inyathelo farewell
As you are no doubt aware, after an extensive consultative process, Inyathelo has appointed Jessica Rees-Jones as its new executive director. Ms Rees-Jones brings considerable sector experience and I am sure you will join me in extending a warm welcome as she prepares to join the Inyathelo family.
During my 11 months with the organisation, South African civil society has been at the coalface of transformation. Inyathelo has been in a powerful position to offer its services and build on what it knows best, with the support of our friends and partners.
Some examples include helping tertiary educational institutions to reinforce their financial stability; building Advancement practitioners’ professional and leadership skills; strengthening civil society organisations; and celebrating South Africans who make a difference, at the tenth anniversary of our Philanthropy Awards.
It is a credit to both Inyathelo’s values and staff that our new executive director takes up her post with external programmes and projects operating smoothly and efficiently. Within the organisation, we have undergone a period of analysis. Individuals are more empowered, systems refined, new collaborations forged.
My time with Inyathelo has introduced me to new organisations, donors and friends. It has been an experience of great inspiration and growth for me, both personally and professionally.
I have no doubt that Inyathelo will be tasked with playing an even more multi-faceted and pivotal role in supporting NPOs and others on their Advancement journey. I am equally certain that Inyathelo will meet such responsibilities with skill, compassion and commitment.
I would like to extend my appreciation to the Board for the opportunity to have served an organisation that is key to our country’s development as a well-functioning democracy. I would also like to thank the wonderful staff of Inyathelo for welcoming me so warmly, and advising and supporting me during my tenure. I know they will continue to make an immense contribution in the fields of philanthropy and Advancement.
