Connecting South African Grantseekers to a World of Funding Opportunities

Foundation Center
Non-profit organisations and other grantseekers in South Africa now have access to a valuable new collection of resources at Inyathelo, which has been honoured with being chosen to become a Cooperating Collection of the Foundation Center of New York.

Kief Schladweiler, Coordinator of the Cooperating Collections, said, “The Foundation Center is pleased to welcome the South African Institute for Advancement (Inyathelo) as a member of the Foundation Center's Cooperating Collections Network. Cooperating Collections are free funding information centers that provide a core collection of Foundation Center publications and a variety of supplementary materials, trainings and other services in areas useful to grantseekers. We look forward to working with Inyathelo to provide information on private philanthropic giving to the grantseeking public in South Africa."

Established in 1956, the Foundation Center is America’s leading authority on organised philanthropy, serving grantseekers, grantmakers, researchers, policymakers, the media, and the general public.

In addition to the comprehensive collection available in the Inyathelo Resource Centre, numerous publications are provided by Foundation Center for use by all visitors to Inyathelo. The services are provided free of charge and open to all, but we encourage all grantseekers to reserve a place by phoning Inyathelo at 021 465 6981.

Included in the collection that is available at Inyathelo is the Foundation Directory Online, which profiles more than 100 000 American grantmakers. The Directory includes details on how to apply for grants. Printed directories of international funders are available, as are proposal writing guides. In addition, Inyathelo has access to a very broad range of non-profit literature that is a great resource to them in their work in the non-profit world.

Shelagh Gastrow, Executive Director of Inyathelo feels that Inyathelo being chosen as a co-operating Collection not only reflects well on the organisation, but that it will be of great benefit to local grantseekers. “We are extremely proud that Inyathelo has been selected as one of only two co-operating Collections in the whole of Africa. We are delighted that Inyathelo can now offer these valuable additional services to grantseekers in southern Africa”, said Gastrow
