Make time for this round of the Kresge Special Initiative in South Africa (KFSI). We will look back at the resourcing of South African higher education, we will look inward at our institutions and the key challenges, and we will identify routes on the future map.
Join Inyathelo, The Kresge Foundation and KFSI grantees in Cape Town for this three-day leadership retreat. Aimed at Vice Chancellors and Directors of Advancement, the retreat provides space for debate and reflection on positions and visions of local thinkers, continental players, and international trustees.
LOOKING BACK
Together we will consider whether and in what manner the KFSI has made a difference to grantee projects, presence and sustainability. This reflection will provide us with critical information on philanthropy as a discipline, and on advancement as a coordinated, strategic and evolving programme of institutional activities, services and events. We will determine the strength of the links between nurturing, sustaining and growing broad awareness of, engagement with, and support for the mission of an institution, and the institution's capacity to attract funding support.
TURNING INWARD
We will facilitate a Socratic turn and ask delegates to examine their institutions in the spirit of modesty, truth and reason.
MOVING FORWARD
This Retreat will re-focus on what each kind of institution can, will and ought to contribute to the life of our society and its people. For example, HE Institutions will be asked to debate the three questions: who gets in (the access question); what gets taught and researched (the curriculum question); and where do degrees take graduates (the market question).
